What they're for

Warmth and compression on squat day, and knees that ache on the stairs after leg day. These are knitted sleeves — close-fitting support and blood flow, not the rigid 7mm neoprene a powerlifter wears for a one-rep max. If you want stiff carry out of the hole, these aren't that. If you want your knees to feel better through a session, they are.
